Swan iT is searching for an Application Support Engineer for a permanent position at a retail leader in Cape Town. This role will work closely with delivery teams, architecture, and business units to ensure system stability, resolve issues, and contribute to long-term modernization strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Owns support posture for critical applications.
- Leads incident response and facilitates major incident reviews.
- Influences modernization roadmaps and operational architecture.
- Mentors junior team members and improves observability practices.
- Change Request development and delivery on current software stacks (C#, SQL, MoveIT, JAMS, SSIS, SSRS)
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application and integration issues across supported platforms.
- Monitor system health and performance, ensuring SLAs and uptime targets are met.
- Maintain documentation of systems, incidents, root cause analysis, and resolution procedures.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers, developers and analysts to deliver permanent fixes and enhancements.
- Participate in incident management processes, including on-call rotations if required.
- Contribute to modernization strategies (e.g., containerization, cloud migration, observability upgrades).
- Provide input into technical debt remediation and platform resilience planning.
- Support deployment activities, environment management, and post-release validation.
- Change Request development and delivery.
- Collaborate and share insights with Analysts, Architects and stakeholders around new initiatives during design phase.
Requirements:
- Strong systems thinking and analytical capabilities.
- Understanding of REST APIs, containerization (Docker/K8s), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Grafana, Splunk, New Relic).
- Experience with cloud-based platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle and Agile delivery models.
- Software knowledge in the following technologies (C#, SQL, MoveIT, JAMS, SSIS, SSRS)
