Swan IT is searching for a Data Steward to join a client in the finance industry. This position will ensure the accuracy, integrity, security, and quality of data assets by implementing data governance standards, managing data lineage and metadata, and serving as the key liaison between business and technical teams.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the custodian for designated data domains, ensuring data is well-defined, understood, and properly used across the organisation.
- Maintain and enhance data quality by profiling data, monitoring data KPIs, and facilitating data cleansing initiatives.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to implement data governance frameworks and ensure alignment to data strategy.
- Develop and maintain business glossaries, data dictionaries, and metadata repositories.
- Ensure data lineage and traceability are documented for critical data elements across the data lifecycle.
- Support data owners in defining and enforcing data standards, classifications, and access controls.
- Assist in root cause analysis and remediation of data issues.
- Ensure compliance with data policies, regulatory requirements (e.g. POPIA, BCBS 239), and audit standards.
- Provide input into data architecture discussions to ensure alignment with data management principles.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years in a Data Management, Data Quality, or Business Analysis role in financial services.
- DAMA, DCAM, CDMP, or similar data governance/data quality certifications would be advantageous
- Understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and data quality tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, IBM InfoSphere).
- Working knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Power BI).
